Sculpted Psyche: The Identity Brain, Irene Ho

Copy of IMG_2766.JPG

Clay, styrofoam, acrylic, 2023.

In the second piece of this series, I sculpted the crown of a skull to express the complexities of self-identity in the face of external pressures. The brain, symbolizing the core of one's identity, is depicted as a landscape molded by the expectations and desires of others. The presence of holes signifies the damage and internal conflicts incurred from conforming to external expectations, creating a poignant commentary on the toll of becoming what others want and the resulting headaches that arise from the constant struggle for identity in a world that often dictates who we should be.
