Woven, Irene Ho

Watercolor, poster color, color pencil, procreate, 2023.
In this piece, I draw inspiration from the rich tradition of embroidery within the Atayal tribe, particularly focusing on the cultural significance of bracelets. Beyond being mere adornments, these bracelets serve as profound symbols of the Atayal people's cultural heritage, intricately woven with values that resonate through each piece. Emphasizing the matriarchal essence of many Taiwanese indigenous communities, where females hold significant roles in practices such as weaving, these bracelets become a testament to the powerful unity fostered by the skilled hands of the women who, through their craftsmanship, establish profound bonds within the tribe.
